Coda,the new Textmate ?
Funny, but since my last post I discover more similarities between Coda and Textmate
To be more correct, a lot of things Textmate had already are now becoming available to Coda.Bundles
The first new development is that Panic has made a “Plug In Creator” available, for users to creat their own plug-ins.
In Textmate a plug-in is called a Bundle.
And guess what ? The Coda Plug-In Creator accepts Bundles. An important downside however, only the commands of Bundles is accepted.
The snippets won’t work, therefore handy Bundles like TODO are unusable in Coda.Key Equivalents
One of the strongest points of Textmate are the Key Equivalents.
With Opt + Shift + L you make an anchor from a higlighted word and a URI from your clipboard.
That one is not available in Coda, but Opt + Cmd + . for adding a closing tag is.ProjectPlus
Another asset of Textmate is the project drawer.
Enhanced with the plug-in ProjectPlus it’s a great productivity tool.
In Textmate you can drag any file into a sidepanel and save it as a project.Coda has something similar called “Sites”,but there you have to use the same directory tree,
where in Textmate you can drag any file into your project.Coda Modes
Coda uses an assembly of files to make it able to construct syntax highlighting, code completion, etc. for a certain language.
This assembly is called a “mode”.
Coda offers a wide range of languages for you to build your applications in Coda. But it is also possible to make your own “mode”.
I would really like to have an ExpressionEngine “mode” for Coda.
Thanks to Chris Ruzin and “maadmac” there’s one now.Chris developed an ExpressionEngine mode for Coda which “maadmac” later took over.
They did a fine job!Again, Coda or Textmate ?
I really don’t know…you’ll really have to find out for yourself.
Textmate still wins with a noselength, thanks to her Key Equivalents and ProjectPlus.
But Coda is coming close…
